Been using this unit for over a year now and I'm officially a convert -- thermal carafes like this are the way to go. NO more will I use a coffeemaker that has a hot plate, slowly cooking my coffee down into motor oil. This unit keeps my coffee hot and fresh. Pair this with a burr grinder so you can experience the superior taste of freshly-ground java and you'll never look back. This unit is simple to operate (clock, timer, on/off switch) and easy to clean. I don't know why people are worried aboout the filters -- #4 filters fit just fine and I always see them at grocery stores. Tip: wet the filter a little before you use it and it will sit in there nicely and improve the taste.
Some caveats: the unit is tall, so factor that into your counter space. It fits under my cabinets but I do have to pull it out to open the lid (no big deal). The carafe will keep a FULL pot hot for hours, but smaller amounts not so much. The carafe works by retaining the heat of what's inside it; I only make 4-6 pots for myself and it doesn't stay that hot for very long. But when I tested a full carafe's worth of coffee it stayed hot for over 6 HOURS.
