Lowest Price Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

To be honest, I haven't brewed coffee in this machine so I can't comment on the quality of the coffee it makes. I'm returning it unused because the #4 filters they tell you to use don't fit. They stick out of the basket more than a quarter of an inch. When you swing the basket into place, there's a plastic feed arm that is supposed to automatically swing over the center of the filter basket. However, because the #4 filter sticks up so high, the arm can't swing over. I tried cutting the filters down and that worked better but who wants to do that every time? Also, to fill the reservoir you have to use the carafe. No big deal. Except there's a piece on the top of the carafe that has to be taken off for the brewing process and then put back on if you want to keep the coffee warm in the carafe. This machine is way too much trouble. Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

I have not purchased this product, so the 1 star has no meaning, but I do use #4 Melitta Coffee filters in my current coffee maker.

What I do with the filters (and what the box instructs you to do)is to fold the bottom edge up and fold the side edge over on the filter before use.

If the other folks who purchased this product are not folding their filters, this may cause the problem of the filter being too high for this coffee maker.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

We've been searching for months for a quality thermal coffee maker. They all have had their problems, as you see in the reviews of many of the other machines.

We finally decided on this one, and we love it. It is so easy to use, and it doesn't suffer from the problems that we experienced with other ones (overflowing, poor pouring, doesn't stay hot, etc). I don't know why there aren't any other good ones on the market that we could find.

It brews 10 cups, makes great coffee, keeps it hot much longer than any of the other thermal machines we've tried, and uses less coffee to make the same strength cup.

You'll read some of the other reviews about how the #4 filter doesn't fit. That's not even a problem. The filters are just a tiny bit too big, and it's no big deal. It works just fine and we do not even consider it an invconvenience. You don't have to fold the filter as some others suggest. You just hold the filter in place when you swing the arm back.

This is a very good machine. When you consider the alternatives (of which we have not found any), this is an exceptional machine.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

While my mother who's 14 year old coffee maker was completely gone she needed a new one. I started to look at WalMart, KMART, Kohls, All the kitchen stores I could find. I couldn't find anything so I started to look online. I went to Amazon.com and ordered this Zojirushi EC-BD15 Thermal Coffee Maker. When it came it looked really good with a good design. It had a metal coating which made it look more contemparary. It started to work very good and the coffee was no exception. It was 100% until a few months ago. Now you can't set the timing so my mom can't start it in the night and have it in the morning. It was kind of a waste after that. I exchanged it and now I have a new one. No complaints so far, but lets ride this one out. I would recommend this but it could break on you too.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Buying Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

After 15 years, three Brauns, twice as many carafes and burned coffee, I bought the Zoji EC-BD15 (US$54 at Navy Exchange) to solve the broken carafe/burned coffee issues. In short order it did both. Now if it will last 15 years, I'll have it made.

My 10-year-old gold filter was a bit tall to fit snugly, but still performed without a problem. I decided to replace it with a new swissinox #4 permanent cone filter (US$3.99 at Navy Exchange) and it fits like it was made for the EC-BD15.

In the first days I two operator-induced spills. The first one I left the warming cover on. The second, my wife or son did the same. Since then, we're all aware and watchful. No more spillage.

Great machine, great coffee, and a great value for the money. Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

We're very pleased with our new coffee maker. The machine is very easy to fill with water and coffee, and it makes delicious coffee. The insulated carafe keeps the coffee warm for hours without "cooking" it, so the coffee still tastes fresh after an hour or more. I am especially happy with how easy it is to clean the machine. There's an inner plastic cone that holds the #4 paper filter; it pops right out to dump the grounds and rinses clean. Then the basket that holds the plastic cone slides off easily too, and the mouth of the stainless steel carafe is wide enough to clean with a standard dish washing brush - it rinses clean too. An excellent product!Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

I have never written a review in my life, but for this product I have to. I had been looking for the "perfect" coffee maker, I wanted it to be fast, hot, and smooth. I wanted a stainless thermal carafe with staying power and a large capacity. Well,. . . I found it !!!

This coffee maker is fast, the coffee is hot and smooth. The thermal carafe holds plenty, and I just had some, 2 1/2 hours old, still hot ( with cold 1/2 & 1/2 added )!!!

There is no spilling when you pour, and no overflow when you brew. Because of the higher brew temperature, my coffee has more flavor with the same amount of coffee that I normally use.

I bought a universal #4 Gold Filter at Williams Sonoma, it fits perfectly.

There was a small problem with the shipping, not Amazon's fault, but Amazon adjucated it quickly and fairly.

In conclusion, buy this coffee maker, and buy it from Amazon.
5 Stars for both !!!Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

This coffe maker was bought to replace a 15 yr old Mr. Coffee. From the first cup I could tell this machine was inferior. The extra cover designed to keep the coffee warm in the carafe broke the first time I used it. After about 3 months the bottom started falling off of the carafe. The biggest disappointment is the bitter flavor of the coffee. I haven't had a good cup from this machine and am going to replace it after using it for only 5 months.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Review

I bought this after reading all the reviews about it. I can't believe how nice it is. I had guests this weekend and we made one pot after the other. Makes great coffee and also looks nice on the counter. I also have to pull it out on the counter to put in the water but so what? After the last pot I made, it sat in the carafe for about 8 hours and was still hot when I dumped it out. I hope it lasts a while;if so I will buy another one.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Top Quality

This coffee maker is excellent. It makes great tasting coffee quickly, and keeps it hot for hours. I usually fire it up around 8:15A and it is still warm enough for an afternoon cup at 3:30P. It will not overflow if the carafe is not seated precisely in the right position, as happened frequently with my last coffee maker. The sneak-a-cup feature works fine, but usually drips one drop each time i use it. Its only cumbersome feature is the cap on the carafe. I find it difficult to grasp and turn. May not be the best choice for someone with weak hands. That being said, this coffee maker is a good value and I would recommend it to others.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker This instant

I really like this item. I brewed coffee in this as well as my other (Cuisinart) coffee maker to see which kept the coffee hotter longer. This Carafe brewed hotter coffee than my other coffee machine that has a warming unit. Then, 3 hours later, this carafe still had hotter coffee than my other coffee maker. (My other coffee maker turned off, so I had to turn it back on to keep my test going).
I can take the carafe off the coffee maker and put it on my countertop and drink throughout the day. Over the holidays I made flavored coffee and took the carafe over to our guest house and enjoyed it with our company.
The carafe is cool to the touch at all times on the outside, but holds very hot coffee inside. I am very pleased with this purchase. Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Best Quality

I received this as a gift and we decided to give it a shot against our existing Krups Pro Aroma. The coffee is strong and sooooo smooth -- much better than the Krups. We took care of the filter glitch mentioned by other reviewers (#4 filters don't quite fit perfectly in the cone) by buying a Krups gold tone filter. I am pretty sure the filter model number is 049-33, but our Krups filter was in the wrong box (it definitely isn't an 052-33 or 053-33). A Cuisinart filter also fit, though not quite as well as the Krups we bought.

Your best bet, if you want a permanent filter, is to bring the Zojirushi basket and basket holder to the store with you to check for fit.

We could have lived with #4 paper filters, but thought we'd give a permanent filter a shot.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

This is a great thermal carafe coffeemaker! It makes a tasty, hot cup of coffee! The features are easy to use. The thermal carafe hold 10 cups. Most thermals only hold 8. I've been looking at thermals for a long, long time now. I was interested in the Capresso, but it seemed way too pricey. The others had very mixed reviews. This one can't be beat, and the price is great. Another great thing about the Zogi is that the carafe is all stainless steel...no glass interior that can get broken. I highly recommend this product! The following is based on one month of regular use:

Good:
Fulfillment of its primary purpose is excellent - it makes really good coffee.

The carafe seems to maintain coffee temperature very well despite its relatively light weight; other carafe machines i've used seem to have especially heavy carafes--an annoyance when trying to judge remaining coffee by heft!

Comparatively quiet, with sounds more reminiscent of distant ocean waves than the blown radiator gurglings of other machines--a nice sonic ambience in the early morning!

Not-so-good:
Controls are clearly marked but could be better differentiated. This is a moderate usability problem that will occasionally result in pushing the the wrong button--in the worst case, mistakenly pushing the clock-setting "hours" or "minutes" buttons.

Both paper and "gold mesh" type filters seem not to fit as snugly as they could. I understand there was a recent redesign to accommodate the more common (in the U.S.) #4 filter size, which is probably a good thing, but the fit seems less precise than it could be. This has no effect on functionality, but is a minor issue of fit-and-finish "feel".

Carafe "lid" seems like a useless aesthetic contrivance. I detect no heat esacping from the valve, so this seems to be an unnecessary solution to a problem that potentially could have been avoided in a better design. Again, a minor issue of design precision.

Difficult to tell which way to orient the machine on the counter, though the intention is apparently a horizontal orientation. Placing it on the counter "sideways", the reservoir indicator is visible, but the more natural-feeling orientation to open the basket, flip the reservoir lid, and use the carafe is the narrower "front".

As described in other reviews here, the carafe lid is surprisingly difficult to grip and to turn and can even be painful because of small decorative protrusions around its edge.

Overall:
A highly functional machine with a few design quirks.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Decide Now

Just received my Zojirushi. I ran the first pot with water to clean out the machine as instructed in the manual and when I went to test the lid to pour it into a cup of water it leaked out of the back of the carafe onto my countertop when I put the carafe in the upright position again. Thinking that I might have done something I wrong I re-poured the water into a cup and it did the same thing again. I think that an inner seal is missing for the lid of the carafe. I am returning through Amazon (which is really pretty simple and stress-free) and will await my replacement and will review again. I'm hoping the machine is as great as everyone says!!

UPDATE: Received my new Zojirushi in the mail through FED-EX (that's right; they Fed-Ex you the item so that it comes faster when you have a return; awesome)! The new one works great and I just love the machine; just a fantastic product. The coffee is tasty and hot. Moral of the story: if your Zojirushi is defective just return it lickity-split for a new one. UPS will come and pick up your old one (or you have the option of having postage paid through the Post Office) for free and they will Fed-Ex you a new one that will arrive in a few days. Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Right now

I just got my Zojirushi EC-BD15 coffeemaker today, and when I ran cold water in it to run it to clean it before first-time usage, I noticed that water was leaking out through a leak on the left side of the unit as well as through the bottom! The leak on the left side was through the part where the top and bottom portions meet near the middle. The leaking through the bottom was through the grated part. I'm not just talking a few drops here and there, I'm talking steady small stream leakage to the point where a minute later water was all over the counter and spilling over. I thought it was something I was doing wrong, but after trying again I experienced the same leakage. The leakage starts when the bulb rises to the 4 cup level. I am going to get an exchange and hopefully this won't happen again, and I will update my review as soon as I get the replacement unit. I will say, however, that I am sorely disappointed that this $70 unit leaks the way it does, and my boss' old Krups $20 coffeemaker never gave us any problems.

UPDATE (2/22/05): I received my replacement unit from Zojirushi directly and was able to test it out today at work. I ran cold water through the machine as it suggested to clean out any manufacturing debris and dust, and no water leaked out even though I filled up the line to the 10 cup line. That was a good sign. Then I ran my first coffee batch and everything worked as it should. The coffee tastes good and the thermal caraffe keeps the coffee hot (don't know if it does for hours because we finished up the coffee before an hour!). The caraffe is made very well but the plastic lid you slide on top of it to keep any heat from escaping is a bit cheap (my coworker snapped one bit and broke it off already), and one of the rubber pieces on the bottom fell off when I got it, but I was able to squish it back where it belonged. Overall I like this coffeemaker and the quality of coffee that it makes. It's very easy to use and easy to maintain.

On more thing: I don't know why people complained about the #4 filter not fitting correctly. I had no problems with it fitting. So what if it doesn't fit perfectly? In no way does that hinder the making of your coffee. You simply put the filter in and close the lid and your coffee will brew just fine. I used a Cuinsenart Grind n Brew for 5 years and although it was nice having a built in grinder (although not a burr grinder), the cleanup was onerous and I feel I've "been there done that" with the grinder going off in the morning (I do however covet the Capresso Coffee Team but can't afford it). This great brewer is handsome and simple and makes great coffee. It uses standard cone filters and is programmable if you don't mind leaving ground coffee exposed to air before brewing. The carafe may be a little large for us (we have three coffee drinkers but usually make several 4-cup pots a day) but I like how it has no glass yet keeps the coffee hot. I also like the fact that there is no burner plate needed and no sizzling drips of coffee burning when I remove the carafe. The price cannot be beat, I got it for less than $40 by opening an Amazon charge account and getting $30 off plus I got free shipping (it took a week).Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Low Price Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I have owned A LOT of coffeemakers over the course of my 50 years (alright I didn't own many the first 15 years or so,) and I even sold them back in 2000 when I worked in the housewares department of my local Filene's department store. As I stated in the title of this review, I believe that the Zojirushi Fresh Brew is better than any of those other brands; not because it has more bells and whistles (it doesn't), not because it's better looking (it is), but because it makes the best cup of coffee I have ever had.

The unit heats the water to a near perfect brewing temperature of 185 to 190 degress. The brew time is also just about ideal; it brews a 50 ounce carafe in 9 1/2 minutes (Zojirushi calls it a 10 cup carafe, I call it 2 1/2 cups, but I use a 20oz mug). The coffee comes out nice and hot, and neither too weak from too short a brewing time, nor scalded from too long a brewing time.

The Fresh Brew uses either #4 paper filters or a #4 gold filter. The original design used a #3 filter, and the filter holder is a little small for a #4. If you moisten the filter (as you really ought to anyway) before putting it in the holder, it fits perfectly. I've tried brewing coffee in this machine with both a gold filter and an unbleached paper filter; personally I prefer the coffee brewed with the paper filter (the gold filter allows more particulates to get into the coffee).

To get the best cup of coffee possible, you will want to grind your coffee finer than you probably have been. I have found that one step up from Espresso gind gives me the best flavour. Also, the single biggest reason people get a bad cup of coffee out of any coffee maker is that they don't use enough coffee. In this machine, I use 1 3/4 scoops of coffee for every 6 oz of water, so for a full pot I use 14 scoops.

On other machines I've owned (Krups and DeLonghi in particular), the water reservoir was so long and narrow, that it was difficult to fill it without flooding the counter top. Not so with the Zojirushi, the reservoir has a nice, wide, opening.

Also, unlike some other coffee makers, the thermal carafe of the Fresh Brew has a pouring spout, so the coffee goes in your cup/mug, not all over the counter. The carafe itself is an insulated, double-walled, stainless steel, thermal carafe. Absolutely no heat is transmitted to the outer surface of the carafe, which of course means your coffee stays hotter. Also, since it is a thermal carafe, there is no heating element in the base of the Fresh Brew. This means that there is no chance of the coffee being "burned" from sitting on a heating pad for too long. Don't leave the carafe on the Fresh Brew if you plan to leave coffee in it for any length of time. The carrafe has a top which you can put on, closing the opening where the coffee runs into the carafe. Sealed like that, the coffee will stay hot and fresh all day, but the top prevents the carafe from sitting on the coffee maker.

As for the bells and whistles, the Zojirushi only has a digital clock and a programmable auto brew feature.

On top of everything else, the Zojirushi sells for about half to two-thirds the suggested retail price of the other brands. How can you go wrong? With the Zojirushi Fresh Brew, you get the best possible cup of coffee (in my opinion) for about half the price of other coffee makers.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

I waited for two weeks for the Zoji to finally arrive. Conducted my due diligence... researched Amazon web site, etc... then selected what I thought was the best value for my needs. But the unit we received is defective so it's going back to Amazon (who, by the way, are easy to deal with on defective returns within 30 days). I was going to rate this item a bit higher but I need to be fair about this so it gets one star for non-performance and unreliability. I've been a coffee drinker for the past 15 years and my little Braun 4 cupper did just fine as a "to go" in the morning. My wife decided she now wanted coffee in the morning, so we had to upgrade. At first glance we liked the Cuisinart Grind and Brew, especially to do away with the grinder as an extra appliance on the counter. However, after less than a week with the Cuisinart, I was ready to take a sledge to it due to the mess on all the parts and the *required* cleanup and drying every day. Luckily we were able to return it.

This time I did a bit of research and kept being drawn back to the Zojirushi despite never hearing their name before. I measured our counter space because of comments of it being too tall. However, no worse than the Cuisinart and much slimmer. My other concern was because my wife's morning starts two hours before me. Any leftover coffee always tastes burnt. I liked the "idea" of the thermal carafe, but was then concerned if it would stay hot.

Finally decided to buy it, but then had some last minute misgivings as recent reviews were complaining of leaking and other defects. Fearful Amazon had gotten a bad batch, I looked elsewhere, but decided on Amazon as they have the easiest return policies. Using "Super Saver Shipping" it arrived in 7 days and looked good.

Setup was a no brainer, although I still read through the surprisingly thin, but very adequate manual. Ran a test batch of water and had no leaks and no obvious problems. My wife commented on it being noisy, but it didn't really phase me. (It reminded me of when a coffee pot needs cleaning due to calcium buildup.) However, this will be running when we're asleep anyway.

It does not come with any test/sample filters, but the smaller V-filters from our Braun work fine for 8 cups - a full 10 cups might be pushing it. The best part is that the coffee is rich, strong, and hot! Hot after brewing; hot (and fresh) after 2 hours of sitting in the carafe.

A few final comments regarding other complaints I read:
- The carafe lid - it does have ridges that I can see being hard to open if clamped down tight, but we've noticed no ill effects from simply not screwing it as tight as it goes.
- The controls - extremely intuitive. However, if you press the hour or minute buttons it will change the time (as opposed to having to hold a "time change" button as well). I don't see this as a problem as 99% of the time you're going to keep the timer at the same time, which means just pressing one "Auto" button every night.
- The size/design - definitely measure your cabinet space first as this would be a problem if your cabinets hang too low. I think it's actually very stylish as there's no boxiness like most coffeemakers. From habit most people are used to pulling carafes from the front, so the controls here seem to be on the "side" and out of the way. However, turning this so the controls face out instead of the carafe takes up much less useful counter space, and the carafe can still be pulled out toward you. (The carafe can be pulled out of three different sides.)

This is by far my favorite coffee maker I've owned. I'm almost tempted to buy another and put it in storage should this one fail...

Cheap Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I really wanted this machine to work - nice design, good features, good price.

The first one I got had the little carafe cap broken. Not a big deal, I emailed the company and they promised to send me another one. About a week later, the unit simply stopped brewing. I called the support line for troubleshooting and they told me to send the unit back for replacement.

I sent it back and Amazon shipped another one out promptly. Everything was fine the first day, but when I picked up the carafe the next day, the bottom came right off in my hand exposing the innards of the seal mechanism for the thermos. The spot welds all along the rim hadn't taken and the carafe literally came apart in my hands.

Again I called the company asking if this was normal. Again they told me to return it and "give them one more chance". So I tried to - like I say, I really wanted this machine to work.

Unfortunately the response I got from Amazon was:

"As it seems that the problem with this item is more widespread
than we originally thought, we are not able to send another
replacement."

Probably just as well, after going through 2 units in under 2 weeks, the chances of the third one lasting anywhere near as long as I'd want it to are about nil.

So you can roll the dice and perhaps get yourself a good one - I did it twice and unfortunately got 2 lemons in a row.

Buyer beware.

(I never did get the replacement cap from the first one. When I called about that, the rep I spoke to told me that they get so many calls that it's impossible for them to follow up on each one to make sure it was resolved. I can see why they're overwhelmed with support calls and it's even more disturbing that customer service lets things slip through the cracks like this...)

(about a month later)
I replaced this with a Braun KF600... the choice is obvious having had both machines: the Braun is simply a better designed and better constructed machine for about the same price. Save yourself the hassle and buy it instead. It takes up less counter space, has a gold cone filter instead of the ill-fitting #4 paper filters, there's no twist cap on the carafe to fight with...
To be fair, it doesn't have a timer. Not a big deal for me.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Buying Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I'll join right in with a rave review about this product. This is a LARGE coffee pot, makes an extra cup or two over my old '10-cup' pot. Brew time takes about 8-10 minutes and the coffee is HOT, HOT, HOT! One thing I do to help that is put hot water in the carafe while I grind my beans and add filtered water to the unit. Once those are finished, I dump the carafe and start my brewing. I opted for a #4 gold cone filter (the new units use a #4 filter, NOT #3 as advertised - this makes it much easier for us Americans to find!) as I can't stand the paper taste. Gold filters can be picked up for between 10 and 20 bucks, look for SwissGold - they are the best. The carafe (when 'pre-heated') keeps coffee hot for hours and warm for many more. If I make a pot in the morning, it stays hot up until lunch and it's still warm in early afternoon and only takes 10-20 seconds in the microwave to get back to HOT. The nice thing about this coffee maker is it doesn't sit on that burner ALL DAY LONG and the last cup tastes almost as good as the first.

When I buy things I do research, lots and lots of research. I wanted the best value in Thermal Carafe coffee makers and this was it. I have been VERY happy and would gladly recommend to any friend. It makes a good tasting cup, hot as can be (brew temp is optimal at 190-195 degrees and after emailing Zojirushi (and testing), this brews at about 185-190 - just about PERFECT). I also had the little piece that goes on top of the lid come broken, after a quick email they are sending a replacement.

I saved a bit of money by purchasing from newegg.com and got it deliverd within a week. Costco also sells these on-line.

If you are looking for a great thermal carafe coffee maker - you WILL NOT be disappointed.

-One VERY, VERY happy coffee drinker!Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Buy Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I have a "Zojirushi EC-BD15 Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker" from Amazon.com on December 13, 2004. At first the unit worked well and we were very happy with it. In the past week the unit has stopped working. Seems that it starts to brew and stops before the pot is completely brewed. Most times it only brews one or two cups and stops brewing. If we start brewing again it well brew another one or two cups and then stop again. I can no longer brew a complete pot.

I can no longer return is since it's past Amazon's 30-day return policy. I have contacted the manufacturer, but their offices are in Japan so I cannot imagine I'll be sending it to them for exchange. So I'm stuck with a $70 piece of junk.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Purchase Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

My wife and I bought this from Amazon in mid December '04 and were quite impressed with its speed and ease of use. A couple of weeks ago, we discovered the maker was starting to kick off before the all the water had been passed out of the reservoir and into the basket. So, in order to make an entire pot of coffee, someone now has to stand there and keep turning it back on after it kicks off. We've contacted Zojirushi about the problem, but haven't heard back yet. When we checked other's reviews of this product, this switch problem now seems endemic with this maker. My hope is that Zojirushi, if it doesn't want to lose customers, provides a replacement without customers having to pay shipping costs, etc. to get a new maker. If we don't get a timely and cost-effective replacement, we're done with this brand for good, and I think Amazon should think twice about selling this maker.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

The elegant simplicity of the Zojirushi will be very hard to rival.
It is fast, well made, and has already contributed to many excellent cups of coffee.
I give it 4 stars because although it is by far the best implementation of a Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker I have seen yet, this entire area of technology could stand for some minor tweaks and improvements.

Notes:

The cup size is approximately 4.5floz
Pre-warming the carafe with hot water seems to greatly improve the time that it will remain hot while sitting.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

We were concerned about carafe coffee makers being able to deliver hot coffee. This one makes HOT coffee. I can't tell you how hot the coffee is 4 hours later, it's gone long before then.

Easy to use coffee maker, quiet during the brew process and easy to clean. We bought this to replace our Cuisinart Grind & Brew maker, which we had to repair several times in it's 3 1/2 year life. I hated that maker. I called it the Tonka Toy, because you needed to play with it to get it to make coffee. All the small parts needed cleaning and exact reassembling before the dang thing would stop beeping out it's error warning and actually get to the business of making coffee. I stopped using the grind part of the machine long ago. That was unbelievably messy to clean.

Anyway, we have had this delightful Zojirushi (how do you pronounce that?) for almost a month now and I love it's ease of use. I don't need a coffee maker that grinds coffee, is preprogrammable or reminds me of my mother's birthday. I want a hot, good tasting cup of coffee and this maker delivers it! We love being able to take the carafe out on the deck and having our second/third cup of hot coffee right there, waiting for us!

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I purchased this item in search of a thermal coffee maker that not only keeps the coffee hot, but actually brews coffee at the correct temperature to produce flavorful coffee that is not bitter. The Zo is unable to do so, because the brew temp is barely 180 degrees. A coffee maker must brew above 194 to really hit the sweet spot and produce great coffee. Also as soon as it arrived I ran water through it to test brew temp. Unfortunately it stopped brewing and shut off at the 2 cup mark leaving water left in the water tank. Not a good sign. The body of the unit is really cheap and flimsy and smells of very strong plastic. I am going to try my luck with another brand. On the plus side the water stayed hot in the carafe for hours. So basically your buying a cheap coffee maker with a good carafe. It is a shame they could not produce a machine as perfect as their carafe. So if you could care less about what the coffee tastes like and just want it hot this is the maker for you.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Review

I purchased this coffeemaker around Xmas. I was looking for a nice looking coffee maker with a carafe to keep coffee warm. The reviews were outstanding and I got a great deal with Amazon, so I decided to try it. It came about a few days after I ordered it and tried it right away.

Pros:

Great coffee.
Makes cofee really quick.
Shuts off as soon as coffee is done.
Its very pretty.
Coffee is hot.

Cons:

It is definetely tall, but fits perfectly under my kitchen cabinet. I have to move it forward to put in coffee and water.

#4 Cone filters don't fit. I started cutting off about 1 inch, but then got lazy. Now I just place it in and make sure it doesn't bend by pushing out the sides.

Coffee stays hot for about 1 1/2 hours (not several hours). I usually fill it up with hot water before making coffee. But it's so quick, making more is not a problem.

I definetely recommend this coffee maker. Great coffee is more important than anything else. And this coffeemaker makes great coffee.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Top Quality

This coffee maker is just OK. The biggest cons are that the coffee is not hot enough and that the paper filters don't fit very well (even the updated model that calls for a #4 cone filter). I would not buy this again, and I will probably buy a Starbucks machine to replace it as I've heard good things about those.

I was very excited with my new coffee maker initially.
Great features, easy to use, nice looking etc. I'm very
disappointed with the taste of the coffee. I spent a month trying different brands of coffee, various grinds and several different water/coffee combinations with no success. It basically makes a lousy tasting cup of coffee. Very little flavor and it has a "bite" to it. I'm very disappointed
with the flavor. Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Immediately

On the plus side, this coffee maker is easy to use, and makes fairly good coffee. The coffee stays fresh tasting longer than that from other drip coffee makers. However, the carafe does not keep coffee hot for as long as I had hoped it would. After a few hours, the coffee is only tepid. Additionally, we had a problem with the bottom half of the carafe separating from the top half. Apparently the seal had broken, and it will not stay together. I don't think that I would purchase this coffee maker again, unless the aforementioned problems had been corrected.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Best Quality

I purchased this coffee maker because I wanted one that would shut off as soon as the coffee was brewed, and then keep it warm without burning it. I've only had my new Zojirushi for a couple of days, but so far I am very pleased with it!

The coffee is delicious! It brews at the perfect temperature for my taste, and it stays hot long enough that I don't have to rush to try to drink the whole pot before it gets cold (or burned).

It's a bit noisier than I was used to, but the sound reminds me of an electric percolator I had many years ago (which I loved), so it's really rather pleasant to wake up to.

As others have said, the #4 filters need to be trimmed a little, but the same was true of my old machine, so no biggie.

It seems to be well made, although the top cover (to the machine, not the carafe) is kind of light-weight and its little latch doesn't really catch. Again, no biggie, but it is the reason I'm giving four stars rather than five.

I love the carafe! It's lightweight and nice looking, and does a good job of keeping the coffee warm.

Shipping from Amazon was surprisingly fast even though I chose their Super Saver free option. I had the coffee maker unboxed, cleaned, and brewing just three business days after I ordered it!Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

This is my first review, but this product is so good I had to rate it. After years of Mr Coffee, Braun, and Black and Decker and other such typical makers I seriously sought out a good one. I could not be happier with my choice.

It makes very hot coffee. The water is so hot that every drop of essence is taken out of the ground beans. The carafe is better than any I have ever seen. With no heating unit, there is no burning of the coffee. It tastes the same (and is still hot, and I mean hot) two hours later. I am not exaggerating to say that coffee made at 10 a.m. is still warm (not hot, but warm) at 10 p.m. I use Trader Joe's Italian Roast freshly ground beans. I also have a Froth au Lait (another great product) to make hot frothy milk or cream and the result is a cup of coffee as good as served in any trattoria in Florence.

Pros:
Stylish attractive stainless steel finish.
High quality vacuum carafe that maintains the temperature.
Easy to use clock and timer.
East to clean.

Cons:
Brewing temperature could be hotter.
#4 filter is 1/4" too tall and wrinkles.

I am not a connoisseur of fine coffee. When brewing I use 1 tablespoon of Folders for two cups of coffee. I make 8 cups each morning, drink two at home and take six to the office in my Nissan Thermos bottle. I bought this coffee maker because it has a vacuum carafe and recieved good reviews. The one I received doesn't live up to the high reviews. It doesn't extract as much flavor, from the common coffee I use, as my Cusinart does. It is a stylish coffee maker that looks good, doesn't use much counter space, keeps coffee hot, and makes an ordinary tasting cup of coffee. I rate -1/2 star for poor fitting filter and -1 1/2 star for ordinary coffee strength.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

I've had a Krups for the last 6 years and have had no problem. However, I wanted a thermal pot and timer, so purchased this after reading the reviews here and on www.coffeegeek.com

I love this product and can't say enough positive things about it (have had almost a month). It's stylish, has a very high quality carafe that keeps coffee hot (even when brewed into a carafe that is not pre-warmed--the coffee starts brewing at 5:30 am and I am not getting out of bed to heat up the carafe!), the coffee is excellent, it brews quickly, is easy to clean, the water indicator is easy to read and the controls are very visible on the side of the machine.

Number 4 filers are a little big, but I don't bother to trim, as really makes no difference in brewing. Interesting, my #4 Krups goldtone filter fits perfectly.

I've had no overflow or leakage problems (though I am not trying to make 12 cups in a 10 cup pot either!). The only concern is the carafe lid is sometimes challenging to get open. It has ridges on it, which can be hard on hands, though using a towel to open easily solves the problem.

Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Right now

My expectations of this coffee maker were high, and it lived up to that expectation. (for the most part)

Reviews have said that this coffee maker hits the right brew temp and makes HOT coffee. I want to confirm this fact: I pour a cup and a billow of steam pours from the cup.

Reviews have said that the steel caraffe keeps the coffee hot for hours. I want to deny this, and then confirm it. IF you just pour it straight in, then no, not for hours. IF you take away the burden of the hot coffee warming up the steel in the caraffe by pre-heating it with hot water before you pour in the coffee, then yes it will stay HOT for hours.

Some reviewers have mentioned that the mechanism to open the valve on the steel caraffe to pour the coffee is uncomfortable and poorly designed. I have to agree with this 100%.

Just so everyone knows, its NOT 10 8oz cups. there are about 7 8oz cups.

My personal tips and a summary.
-If you use a paper filter the water will flow faster and you will have to adjust the amount of coffee you use. (use more)
-If you use a permanent filter (many recommend a 20.00 swiss gold filter, I just got one for 5.00 from target) , the water will flow through quite a bit slower making the coffee stronger. If you dont account for this technicality by adjusting the amount of coffee you use,you will over-extract the beans and get a bitter taste; as I did. Adjust your amount of coffee per 8oz cup (7 total). I personally recommend one tablespoon of medium ground beans per 8oz of clean/filtered water. Dont forget to add in another 1/2 cup of water to account for water evaporating during brew.

I have found that I can easily replicate the coffee I love from coffee houses by using their beans with this particular brewer, using 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per 8oz of filtered water, grinding the coffee in a burr vs blade grinder, and adding in a little extra water to account for evaporation.

I give this coffee maker a 4 out of 5 stars. 4 verses 5 mainly because of the poor design on the steel caraffe lid. You may have never heard of Zojirushi before, but wow can they make a great cup of coffee ! Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Lowest Price Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I've spent several weeks week getting to know the Zojirushi Fresh Brew... and for the most part, I'm quite pleased. It has some foibles [which I'll get to in a moment] but on the whole it's a very capable coffee brewer. More, it's one of the very few home models I know that can brew 8 cups of just-roasted coffee at a proper 2 tablespoons per cup ratio without fuss, and - this is important! - maintain proper brewing temperatures throughout the entire brew cycle.

The details...

Zoji has been making vacuum pots and the like for nearly 100 years, and they've been making an assortment of rice-cookers, tea brewers and hot water dispensers for decades. While this is, I believe, their first home coffee brewer, they've got more than a little experience in kitchen electrics. They've put that experience to good use.

If you've ever brewed up a thermos full of coffee using a big Melitta filter cone then this setup will look pretty familiar. For all intents and purposes, the Fresh Brew simply adds an automated hot water delivery system to the mix... with a few improvements.

Improvement number one: not only does this system brew into an all-stainless thermal carafe [no hot plate here, thankyouverymuch] but it also insulates the brew basket. What good is it, after all, to heat up all that water if it's just going to get cold while you're brewing? This is huge! This is important! This is... well, I'm excited about it, okay?

Improvement number two: the Fresh Brew features an accurate gauge of water volume. When it reads that you've got 8 cups of water in the brewer's reservoir, it means it. Mind you, we're talking 6 oz. cups of water -- that's the way the coffee world measures a cup [unless you're Bodum and then it's 4 oz.].

Improvement number three: the Fresh Brew is patient. The biggest pain about the manual pour-over method is that you've got to wait to add more water, especially if the coffee is really fresh. Fresh coffee blooms with its charge of CO2! Faced with a full basket of coffee that was literally fresh from the roaster the Zoji didn't overflow, nor did it heave grounds into the water dispensing shower-head. More, the grounds were thoroughly saturated; no dry spots.

So where's the foibles?

Like a great many autodrip brewers the feeder tube that comes from the Zoji's heating element to the shower-head takes a straight path right through the water reservoir. For most brewers this is a game-over situation... the heating element simply can't overcome the heat exchange that occurs en route to the brew-head. On the Zoji, the heating element *does* get hot enough... provided that the water you've placed in the reservoir is not *too* cold.

Example A: In the office using the "unchilled" spigot on the water cooler, I draw off 48 ounces of water for the reservoir and brew a pot. Throughout the brew cycle water temperatures in the brew basket range between 195 and 200 degrees F. The result is a lovely pot of Ethiopian Yrgacheffe that is sweet, floral and lemony.

Example B: At home I draw off 48 ounces of water from the water filter in-line with the refridgerator. The temperature of the water in the reservoir is about 40 degrees F. and the resulting temperature in the brew basket never tops 185 degrees F. The result is an icky pot of the very same Yrgacheffe that is bitter, murky and flat.

The moral: mind your initial water temperature and you'll do just fine.

All in all, the Zojirushi Fresh Brew is capable of making 8 cups of coffee that's on a par with manual pourover methods. Better, really, as it insulates the brew-basket to better maintain water temperatures.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Low Price Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I've had this coffeemaker some 6 months now and still love using it everyday. The carafe lid isn't perfect, but it works well enough (it pours). It makes a great cup of coffee, keeps it warm enough for long enough (hours) and is very easy to use. I also bought the #4 swiss gold tone filter as was recommended by other reviewers and it fits fine. I am so happy I bought this coffee maker and replaced my old Krups. This is an excellent choice if you like great coffee and little hassle.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

I love my Zojirushi machine--I've had it for a few months now and it makes great coffee that stays hot all day long, and it's easy to clean. My main issue with it are the filters. Everyone's reviews say that #4 permanent gold filters fit theirs. I've tried 4 different brands of gold filters, and none have fit so far. I know some people, in their reviews, have said that the filter issue has been resolved, but mine still has the weird sized basket. I emailed Zojirushi to ask them directly if there's a specific brand that fits their coffee maker. This is the letter I got back from them: "Thank you for your inquiry regarding the the filters for the EC-BD15 thermal coffee maker. At this time there is no permanent filter for our unit. We reccomend using regular #2 or #4 filters even though they are not a perfect fit. Please visit our website for further developments and we apologize for any inconvenince this might have caused." I've been cutting a half-inch off of normal #4 disposable filters, which is kind of a pain. If I don't do this, the lid won't close.
Just a quick update: I found slightly shorter disposable #4 filters that I don't have to trim, only squish a bit on top to fit in the machine. It's been almost a year and my zoji (knock on wood) is still going strong.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

Discount Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

I've had this coffee maker for a couple of weeks now. I like the thermal carafe system a lot; it does keep the coffee warm longer than a hot plate (which gives a nasty burned taste to coffee after a bit). It's also easier to clean than a hot plate.

On the downside, the way the carafe fits under the basket is somewhat faulty. All coffee makers have some sort of mechanism to stop the coffee drip when the carafe is not present, and to enable the drip when you insert the carafe. The mechanism on this particular coffee maker is not well designed. You will have drips, which means you have to wipe the bottom of the carafe often. Also, I found that the basket always retain a small amount of coffee, so when you replace a freshly rinsed carafe, bingo, a little bit of old cold coffee drips...

Now if you can live with these minor annoyances, I still recommend the thermal carafe coffee maker over a hotplate based coffee maker, any time.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.
