This is the first thermal carafe coffee maker I've owned, also the first zojirushi coffee maker (who knew?) I've owned. Had it for several months now and it consistently brews a great cup of coffee at the right temp and will stay hot for 2-3 hours, or longer if you pre-warm the carafe with hot water. The stainless steel carafe is great- I also use it as a thermos/hotpot - no glass to worry about.
It works fine with #4 filters, and has not leaked- I do make sure the pot is sitting securely on it's holding plate. It's not any noisier than my Mr. Coffees or Cuisinarts. And the cap should be turned only a quarter past the opening when brewing or it will be difficult to open for pouring. That is not mentioned in the manual. If it had been I would have given it 5 stars.
