Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Review

For about 5 or 6 years I've been living with my old proctor silex coffee maker that I've had since I had roommates in my early 20's. It worked fine, but the coffee was sub par. My boyfriend very rarely would drink coffee from it, saying it was gross. He would rather go out in the cold to dunkin' donuts or starbucks. So I read up on a lot of different coffee makers and this was the one I choose.

I wanted to have the steel carafe instead of the hot plate with a glass carafe. My 2nd cup of coffee was always burning with the hot plate version, and wasting electric at the same time. With this, getting it set up has a couple more steps then the regular style coffee pot, but I think it's worth the trouble because my 2nd cup is as good and hot as the first.

You obviously do the regular things, fill with cold water, put coffee grounds in filter. But for this, you also should put very hot water in the carafe to get the steel warm for a minute or two before starting your pot of coffee. This ensures that your coffee will still be at least warm bordering on hot at, say 2pm when you brewed at 8am. Seriously, that was the case yesterday. Usually from 8am-11am is when I have my two cups, and at 11 is still quite hot.

I like dark roasts and this makes delicious coffee. I sometimes will treat myself to getting the self serve whole beans in the grocery store and grinding them at home, and since I got this one for Christmas, I haven't stopped doing that because I can finally enjoy the coffee with this coffee maker making it!

A couple of cons or things I wasn't thrilled about:
- If you have your coffee maker tucked under a cabinet like I do, you have to pull it out to put water and coffee grounds in and then push it back, because the entire top lifts up instead of anything swinging out.
- The water reservoir definitely holds more water then the carafe, so make sure you fill the carafe, not just randomly put water up to the 10 cup line. If you make the mistake I did, just filling the reservoir, the coffee overflows and makes a mess.
- If you have a large family or more then 2 people that drink coffee, this might not be for you. If we're both home, we each get 2 cups out of a full pot, his being a smaller cup then mine. So 2 small and 2 large. This works great for us but will hinder you during times of a dinner party or large family.
- lastly this isn't a brand I had heard of, so I really went on research and reviews vs. trusting a brand. It's not as heavy duty as I expected in the body part of the coffee maker. It's pretty thin plastic. So far so good, but it was just something I noticed.

I'm still absolutely excited about this coffee maker and look forward to my coffee every morning. I would without a doubt repurchase it!

If you by chance have an awesome asian market near you(we have a couple in the Boston area), I recently saw one of these for 69.00 which is a amazing deal for this coffee maker.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.
