I have been using this coffee maker for several weeks now since the "passing" of my beloved Krups Aroma Control coffee maker, which they apparently do not make any longer. Oh I cried for many days because I loved that coffee maker, it served me well for 10 years and I loved it so. It truly was the perfect machine for me. So I searched for days for a replacement and I have to say that the Zojirushi comes as close as I can find. It works almost the same as my old Krups but there are just a few things that are bothersome and that I wish I could change, which are:
The carafe: Its all stainless which is great, but it has a detachable cap which you need to put on to keep the coffee hot after brewing. However you also need to remember to take said lid OFF when you are ready to brew because it has already happened to me that I forgot one time and had 4 cups of cofee all over my counter and floor. Why do we need this extra little thing to remember is beyond me, my Krups had a lid that was retractable so when you brewed it pushed down and filled the carafe and then when you took it out it popped up and sealed the lid. The coffee stayed hot, no extra things to remember because really who can remember anything before you actually HAVE your coffee?
The lid and fill area: I was used to opening the lid to fill the water tank and then swinging open the basket to put my filter in. Two separate areas. With the Zoji you have one lid and you fill the water and the basket under that same lid and there is this little swing arm that you have to move twice - once to fill the water and then again to fill the coffee basket some times back again if you don't get the order right. Again, this is just more STEPS that I don't want to think that hard before I have my coffee. My Krups had no little swing arm, nothing extra to remember.
You can use #4 filters with it. Yes it takes a little wrangling because the filter holder is a little shorter, but #4s do work and I haven't had any problems with overflow or anything. Its just a little more time to make sure everything is just so.
Other than these few minor issues, it really is the best I could find to compare to my old Krups. It brews quickly and makes a great cup of coffee. I would recommend it if you are looking for a thermal carafe coffee maker.Get more detail about Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.
